Why Do I Still Need You to Understand Me?
What happens when someone you love doesn't understand you?
Maybe they question a decision you've made. Maybe they see your life differently than you do. And even when you know you don't need their permission, their opinion still gets under your skin.
In this episode of Remember Who You Are, I'm thinking about our desire to be understood and the difference between wanting someone to understand us and needing their understanding in order to feel okay about ourselves.
Because sometimes the judgments that affect us the most aren't necessarily the ones that are true. They're the ones that touch something we're already questioning within ourselves.
And that made me wonder:
What if I've been waiting for someone else to stop judging me when what I actually need is to stop judging myself?
This is a conversation about judgment, self-trust, being misunderstood, and learning how to hear someone else's opinion without automatically turning it into our truth.
Because maybe the goal isn't to stop caring what anyone thinks.
Maybe it's learning how to care what someone thinks without abandoning ourselves because of it.
In this episode:
• Why being misunderstood by people we love can feel so uncomfortable
• The difference between wanting understanding and needing approval
• Why certain judgments affect us more deeply than others
• Getting curious about what someone's judgment is touching within us
• What it means to let someone misunderstand you without abandoning yourself
• Learning to trust yourself even when someone else disagrees
